(This is the best kept secret used by SEO companies and it's sooooo easy to use, anyone can do it :) Below is a quick explanation and some guides, give it a go, have a play and see how you get on.

Exact matches – this gives you results based on the key words you entered

Broad matches – gives you more key word results that you can then enter and check as Exact matches

Keywords Search Box - This is where you enter your key words to be checked. Enter them one to a line. If you have an account, the results are unlimited, otherwise your limited to 100 results – I would suggest entering one key word and testing it at a time.

Advanced Options and Filters - You can use these setting to tweak your results. Make sure you select the language and country you want to target - Keep it simple to start and you may wish to look at these features latter.

The Results - Ignore the competition column (this is purely Ad Words related) we’re interested in Organic Search Competition as this is the main results listing.

The 2 important columns are Global Monthly Searches (worldwide search results) and Local Monthly Searches (these are searches carried out in your country, (provided you’ve set a location in Advanced Options and Settings).

Checking the Key word Competition - Now we’ve got a list of key words and it’s results, we can use this data to see how it ranks on Google.

Click on a key word (with a good search volume) that best describes your business. You’ll see a menu appear, click on Google search. This takes the search term into the standard Google.com search. We’re now looking at the number of results.

We want to carry out an exact search for our key word. If you put the key word in “speech marks” Google will return exact match results only. We’re looking for key words that return less than 100,000 results – any more than this your fighting an up hill battle. When you find a key word with less than 100,000 results (the fewer the better), checkout a couple of the result links and see if these sites are relevant, if they are, you’ve found a good key word.

Look at the top 5 results – if it’s BIG companies, Tesco’s, Lloyds, McDonalds etc ignore these key words and try again. You’re unlikely to beat them. Better to concentrate on other key words.

Repeat this process until you have 10-12 quality key words. Make a note of them and their results. This is so you can monitor their progress in the future.

That's it, done!! you now have some very powerful information you can use to either start building a mobile app development & website design or optimising your site.

Using Keywords

Now you’ve found some key words you need to use them in your content – this is the ‘On page SEO’ bit

On Page SEO

On page SEO is about getting those key words you’ve found into your pages content.

Titles & Links

Use your main key word in the page name and title (This is the title and heading of the page). It should make sense on the page.

The page should also be saved with this name so :

mobile app development & website design Design in Bristol UK is the page heading and mobile app development & website design-design-in-bristol-uk.html is the page name (it’s web link)

Page content

Now we need to put the key words into the content. As I said earlier don’t try an trick the search engines, they’re not stupid and will punish you!!!

Just write a nice clear well written article using your key words naturally. Long key words should be used but they can be broken up so don’t keep going on about mobile app development & website design design in Bristol UK. It’s ok to break it up, search engines will still see the key words.

Google wants a minimum of 500 words of good quality text, spelt correctly and without any grammatical errors.

Keyword Density

This is the percentage of keywords compared to the rest of the content. Some people think 1 or 2% is right others will tell you 5% - however, you’re writing for your customers so I think it’s a case of quality. I don’t think it matters (unless you’ve gone mad on the keywords!!!). Just write good quality content and you’ll naturally use your key words.

That’s it!! That’s the On Page SEO sorted, now we need to look at the Off Page SEO
